A Two-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC) for final year science students was conducted by Entrepreneurship Cell. This camp was sponsored by Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) as a part of the DST-NIMAT Programme. Dr.D.Vetrivelan, the camp coordinator gave the welcome address. Rev.Fr. Dr. Thaddeus, the Principal, welcomed the chief guest and Rev.Fr.Kasi Sagayaraj, the Vice Principal, had introduced the Chief Guest, Mr. Manohar, the Founder and Director of CEA InfoTech Pvt Ltd, Bangalore and gave an inaugural address, in which, he insisted on the development of entrepreneurship skills and critical thinking skills among students.
The speaker of the first session was Mr. Manohar and he highlighted on how to become a successful businessman/woman and simultaneously contributing to the welfare of the society, by narrating his personal journey and the difficulties he faced as a successful businessman. The historical background of Entrepreneurship and its current developments were explored by Mr. Pathrose, the Placement and Training coordinator of the college. An Introduction to Business plan was given by Dr.D.Vetrivelan, Head,Dept. of Management studies and the group discussion was conducted on solving the problems faced by the customers. It was followed by the session on how to start Small Scale Industries (SSI) by Mr.Nichola Prakash.P (Department of extension Education and Services, Sacred Heart College ,Tirupattur) and he gave a detailed account of various state licensing and funding agencies like MSMEs in TamilNadu. Rev.Fr.Kasi Sagayaraj, the Vice Principal had illuminated the students with the success stories of entrepreneurs like Amazon, Hotel Kola Passi, Flipkart...etc and gave a practical insight into world-business tactics in identifying customer needs. On the second day, Dr. Srinivasan, Assistant professor from Priyadarshini Engineering College, Vaniyambadi, expounded on state and central government schemes such as Rojgar Yojana and Revenue Generation Scheme and also, he instructed about different ways of generating funds like angel funding, bootstrapping, etc. Mr. Rajasekaran, the Vice President of Ambalal Stock Broking Pvt Ltd, Vellore, shared his views on investment cum business opportunities in the stock market. It was followed by group discussion on Business idea led by Mr. Pathrose and Dr. Vetrivelan, where students were asked to brainstorm on new businesses as a team and the best team was awarded with a prize. Rev. Fr. M. J. Arun, the Assistant Director of Bosco Soft Pvt. Ltd, Yelagiri Hills, had educated about the significance of soft skills for entrepreneurs in attracting and retaining customers. The students were given practical exposure through various industrial visits on the last day.
