ARIVAGAM (KNOWLEDGE CENTER)

The Don Bosco College Library is named as Arivagam for Knowledge Resources .It was started in the year 2005. It plays a proactive role in enabling access to information resources of all kinds and providing innovative, responsive and effective services to meet the changing and sustained needs of the academic community. It is situated in the first floor of Arivagam block, Arivagam provides a learning and digital access environment for all. It includes Print Library (10000+ books), Digital Library (30000 + eBooks), Media Services, Virtual Museum and Knowledge Bank.

The Library is a strategic asset for the DBCY, providing intellectual guidance and extraordinary information experiences toward the advancement of knowledge.

Library Objectives

  • To select, evaluate and acquire library materials in varied formats to meet and respond to the needs of our diverse community.
  • To promote literacy and disseminate useful daily information to the people and encourage lifelong learning through its reading materials and resources.
  • To provide opportunity, ensuring freedom and equal access to information for all members of the community, to educate and enlighten them.
  • To maintain and preserve books, materials and resources with historical, cultural, social, economic and archival value, and other related materials in an organized collection to provide members of the community with these materials and enriched their personal and professional lives.

Working Hours

  • Weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

  • Number of books for UG 2
  • Number of books for PG 4
  • Number of books for Ph.D 6

While entering and leaving Arivagam, a student must register. Books, notebooks, files, purses, etc., may not be taken into Arivagam by the members. Such materials must be left at the property counter. Only sheets of paper shall be taken inside. The Centre is not responsible for any loss of property at the counter. Laptops must always be with the owner and cannot be left at the property counter. Borrowed books must be returned on the due date. All books must be returned before the end of the academic year.

  • For books returned late, an overdue charge of ₹2 per book per day is collected. This charge will be raised to ₹3 per day after a week.
  • All materials overdue by more than two months or not returned are declared lost. The member of the staff concerned must replace the book within a week.
  • If not, the cost of the book shall be charged to the borrower at the current price. If the book is not in print, the cost of a similar book shall be charged. In addition, the member has to pay a service charge of ₹20. The said borrower is not allowed to use Arivagam till the sum is paid.
  • After using books for reference in Arivagam, the books shall be left on the reading table. All books will be replaced in their proper place by the staff.
  • All members must show their identity card (ID) to the duty staff when requested. No one may bring nonmembers into Arivagam.
  • No book is to be lent or taken out of the reference room. Only books from the stack room are lent to the members.
  • Members shall take due care of books and library furniture. Any marking, underlining or annotating of books is strictly forbidden. A member who is held responsible for any damage/defacement of books or other library property must compensate for the loss.
  • Absolute silence is observed in Arivagam. Those who do not comply with, will not be allowed to use the facilities.
  • Politeness, good order and cooperation are expected from all members to optimize the utilization of the center.
  • Interdepartmental books shall be returned within a month. In case, they are required by the concerned department, they may be recalled by the staff.
