Programme Overview

The Don Bosco Centre at Yelagiri Hills stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of Fr. Guezou, founder of the Salesian Society, despite his passing on January 29, 2009. Governed by the Salesian Provincial of Chennai, the Centre embodies the mission of Don Bosco and Fr. Guezou, fostering a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere throughout its campus.

In 2014, the Department of English emerged from the English Training Centre, transitioning into a full-fledged undergraduate program affiliated with Thiruvalluvar University. Since then, the department has been dedicated to serving deserving students, aligning successfully with the college’s vision and mission, and further committing itself to research and innovation.

The department primarily focuses on nurturing students into proficient communicators in English and fostering a deep appreciation for literature to support their career growth. Through a variety of literary-based activities, it continually enhances students’ language proficiency and literary understanding. The department currently offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in English Literature and consistently maintains a commendable 91% pass rate in university examinations.

Upon completing their undergraduate degrees, most students choose to pursue postgraduate studies or prepare for competitive examinations. Conversely, postgraduate students often enter the workforce, while some continue their academic journey by enrolling in research programs.

The department offers a diverse range of extracurricular activities, including literary workshops, guest lectures, and literary festivals such as BosLit, to enrich students’ academic experiences. It also actively collaborates with local communities and organizations to promote literacy and cultural exchange, reflecting its commitment to social and cultural empowerment.

Furthermore, the department continuously updates its curriculum to align with industry trends and global standards, ensuring that students acquire relevant skills and knowledge for the modern workforce. Through its research initiatives and partnerships with industry leaders, the department creates opportunities for students to engage in innovative research, preparing them for leadership roles in academia, industry, and beyond.
